Though racial microaggressions are felt by every marginalized group within the dating realm, I am building upon my own personal experiences with heterosexual, cisgender white men to offer suggestions on how to ease racial tensions that may arise in a white man/black woman pairing.
Once, I was at a bar with friends when two white men approached me.
Much like you cannot love a guitar, since it cannot love you back, unrequited feelings for another human are a dead end. ALWAYS appreciate people who see how awesome you are, and choose within THAT group for those you keep in your life.
NEVER try to convince ANYONE why they "should" like you!
A brief trip through history might be helpful here.
History is littered with examples of black men who ran afoul of society’s boundaries when dating white women — as it pertained to interracial dating and paid a heavy price for it.
If the white man in front of you does not love you, then he is out of synch with you, you are out of synch with him, or how you judge how you are synching is wrong. Unrequited love IS empty and one-sided, which is NOT real love at ALL.
Real love is ALWAYS filled with the promise of happiness, and unrequited love is NOT by its very definition.
The guy did, in fact, have some kind of black girl fetish.
But the most important question is a great deal less complicated.
Is dating white women something you are interested in doing?
If the answer is yes, all of the other questions become irrelevant and a great place to start is our Simply put, if you are interested in making your own dating decisions and if you are man enough to face the storm you may have to endure for violating society’s taboos, then nothing else should matter. And you care about jumping into a relationship that could turn some heads — in all the wrong ways, and in all the wrong places.
Some might consider this a naive approach to dating white women. That’s why you, a black single man interested in dating white women need to accept some uncomfortable realities before you proceed. Say what you will about how much the world has changed in the recent decades since the civil right movement. And that history is one that has frowned upon interracial dating for as long as America has existed.
